Trenchless Sewer Repair in Lenexa, KS

A failing sewer lateral in Lenexa used to mean a backhoe and a trench down the whole yard. I fix most lines from one or two small access points instead, so your lawn, driveway, and trees stay put.

Why Lenexa sewer lines fail

Lenexa is really two cities when it comes to sewers. The established neighborhoods that filled in through the 1970s and 80s off 87th, Quivira, and Pflumm sit on clay or early plastic laterals that have been in the ground long enough to crack and sag, and the historic core around Old Town Lenexa is older still. Johnson County's expansive clay soil makes the wear worse. It swells when wet and shrinks when dry, working those pipes back and forth until joints separate and bellies form. Then the roots from Lenexa's mature trees find the cracks, and you get the slow drains and backups that bring people to call me. I run a camera down the line first so we know exactly what is wrong and where before anyone digs anything.

Lining instead of trenching

When the pipe is cracked or full of roots but still holding its shape, cured-in-place lining is the cleanest repair. I saturate a felt liner with resin, pull it through the old lateral, and cure it in place to form a new seamless pipe inside the old one. The joints the roots used to exploit are gone, and there is no trench scarring your Lenexa yard. For a lot of the 80s-era homes here, that is the whole job. See my pipe lining page for the details.

When it needs full replacement

If the clay soil movement has collapsed the lateral or pulled it badly out of line, a liner will not hold and the pipe has to be replaced. Pipe bursting does that without a long trench. I pull a new HDPE pipe along the existing path while a bursting head splits the old pipe outward, working from two small pits instead of a ditch across the drive. That matters in Lenexa where so many laterals run under a finished driveway or mature landscaping. More on my pipe bursting page.

Lenexa FAQ

Why do Lenexa sewer lines fail?
Many Lenexa neighborhoods filled in during the 1970s and 80s on clay or early plastic laterals that are now cracking and sagging, and Old Town Lenexa is older still. Johnson County's clay soil shifts the pipes and tree roots invade the cracks. A camera inspection pinpoints the problem.
What does trenchless repair mean?
It means fixing or replacing the sewer line without trenching its full length. I work from one or two small access points using pipe lining or pipe bursting, which spares your Lenexa lawn, driveway, and landscaping.
Can you replace a line under my driveway?
Yes, that is exactly where trenchless pays off. Pipe bursting pulls a new pipe along the old path from two small pits, so a lateral running under a Lenexa driveway or patio can be replaced without tearing it up.
How do you decide between lining and bursting?
The camera tells us. If the pipe is cracked or root-filled but intact, I line it. If the clay soil has collapsed it or pulled it apart, I burst and replace it.
